The Kohala Coast earned its nickname for stable, year-round sunny weather, white-sand beaches, and a string of master-planned resorts along roughly 20 miles of shoreline.

Hāpuna Beach State Park, Kaunaʻoa Bay, ʻAnaehoʻomalu Bay (A-Bay), and Waialea Bay (“Beach 69”) are among the best on the island, and the best island beaches cluster right here.

Mauna Kea Resort was founded in 1965 by Laurance S. Rockefeller as the coast’s first resort hotel. Waikoloa sits beside one of Hawaiʻi’s largest petroglyph fields, ancient fishponds, and the Ala Kahakai coastal trail.

The resort villages of Mauna Kea, Mauna Lani, and Waikoloa sit in open lava country, with Waimea and the harbor town of Kawaihae inland.
